Good Housekeeping gathered Modern Urban Moms at the first-ever MUMS of Manila

Good Housekeeping Philippines, the leading family and home magazine in the country, in partnership with SmartParenting.com.ph and Yummy magazine, recently held the newest gathering of Modern Urban Moms (MUMS) on May 28, Saturday, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, at the SM Mall of Asia Main Mall, Atrium.

May is a special month for Good Housekeeping, not only because Mother’s Day falls on this month, but also because it’s the magazine’s anniversary. This year, we turned 18!” said Tisha Alvarez, Editor-in-Chief of Good Housekeeping. “We would like to thank all our loyal readers for being with us all this time and for making Good Housekeeping stronger every year. Holding events like MUMS of Manila is our way of reaching out to our readers and giving back to them for their support.”

MUMS of Manila was a whole-day event where moms could SHOP, LEARN and ENJOY. Moms who attended were able to SHOP from 30 concessionaires offering the latest products covering beauty and wellness, food, kids, and home, among others; LEARN from a series of talks from Good Housekeeping editors and experts; and ENJOY games, raffles, prizes, entertainment, and booth activities.

My friend Neri and I attended the workshop segment HOME with the topic: "Say Goodbye to Kalat" by Tisha Alvarez

Me and Neri
She shared 6 Ways to Declutter:

1. Use the box method.
Keep
Sell/Give away
Toss

2. Get rid of 1 item every day.
Choose one thing to give away or discard each day.
Just make sure you don't go out and replace the stuff you get rid of!

3. Edit your closet.
Every 3 months, choose 33 items that will serve as your capsule wardrobe.
Tweak as necessary - 66 items for 6 months (2 seasons in the Philippines), etc.

4. Do the 12-12-12 challenge.
12 items to throw away
12 items to donate
12 items to be returned to their proper place
Get the whole family involved!

5. Use the KONMARI METHOD
Guiding principle: "Does this spark joy?"
Tidy by criteria, not location:
    Clothes
    Books
    Papers
    Komono (miscellany)
    Mementos

6. Know where to throw.
Donate items for recycling (e.g., to Trash-to-cash recycling market at SM Malls every first Friday and Saturday).
Donate to a worthy cause (e.g., Segunda Mana).
Have a garage sale.

  7. I love the de-cluttering tips! We here have a tendency to stick with our stuff (just because it is hard to let go sometimes).
